Future of Rail: Demand

In RIA’s 150th year, and marking the 200th anniversary of the railway, the RIA Future of Rail series leads and shapes the national debate on the future of the rail sector. Through a programme of dynamic events held across the UK, this series tackles some of the rail industry's most pressing topics, from demand and investment to devolution and exports.

Future of Rail: Demand

Sponsored by Independent Rail Retailers

Rail demand has recovered to 97% of pre-Covid levels, and is only continuing to grow. Steer’s RIA-commissioned report in 2024 estimated that demand will grow anywhere between 37% and 97% by 2050. At The Future of Rail Demand in 2025, Steer will be publishing their latest reports into passenger demand, whilst we will discuss how this can be maximised
