Independent research by Steer, commissioned by RIA, has shown that the right offer for customers could contribute to between 37% and 97% growth in passenger numbers by 2050. With customer experience being intrinsically linked to ridership levels, this would represent a missed opportunity to maximise revenue, minimise subside and accelerate decarbonisation. Government policy has identified several concerns, with promises made on rail retail in the Rail Reform agenda. However, these proposals fall short, and must be resolved to meet the desired outcome of Rail Reform.

RIA aims to bridge the gaps between Government’s aspirations, policy, and implementation. Through a stable national vision, innovation, and the use of digital technologies, we can create a better offer for retail and ticketing that is fit for the future.
