14th – 20th March is British Sign Language Week, and the Women in Rail and Railway Industry Association are delighted to be hosting an event to help people gain an initial understanding of BSL and give them the skills for basic communication.
 
Our railway has made huge strides in becoming more accessible for non-hearing passengers and colleagues alike. This session will be a celebration of British Sign Language and the power of communication it brings to many.
 
Please join us at the Atkins SNC-Lavalin offices for a teaching-style session followed by coffee and networking. 
 
Guest speaker: Amanda Elkin: EMR

Amanda is a qualified sign language instructor and has delivered great sessions in Derby before. Her charismatic yet simple approach to teaching sign language aims to encourage conversations between hearing, deaf or partially deaf colleagues.

This event forms part of the activity carried out by the RIA / Women in Rail EDI Charter Working Group. The EDI Charter was launched in November 2022 to champion EDI in the UK Rail Industry.
