RIA welcomes new Network Rail Chief Executive

Following the news that Andrew Haines OBE will be the new Chief Executive of Network Rail, Darren Caplan, Chief Executive of the Railway Industry Association, commented:

“The Railway Industry Association and its members would like to welcome Andrew Haines OBE to his new role as Chief Executive of Network Rail, and we wish him good luck on the challenges ahead!

“Andrew will preside over one of the most intensely used railway networks in Europe, with one of the best safety records and – despite often unbalanced reporting – growing levels of passenger satisfaction. We look forward to Andrew being a strong advocate of a sustainable rail supply chain, ensuring it is an engaged partner in Network Rail’s decision making process and that Network Rail works with the supply sector to ensure the very best for those that use the UK’s rail network, and for taxpayers too. We stand ready to continue to work in partnership with Network Rail to deliver further benefits for passengers, freight users, and the taxpayer in future.

“We also thank Mark Carne for all he has done at Network Rail. He has overseen a huge change in the way Network Rail runs the railway system, through the devolution of Network Rail’s route businesses and a shift to a more outward-looking organisation that is able to promote innovation and new methods of working. We wish him well for the future.”
