On Tuesday 27 July, Van Elle and Keltbray commenced piling works on Core Valley Lines in preparation for the electrification of the South Wales Metro.

Working together with Amey and Transport for Wales (TfW) this programme provides a significant milestone in the modernisation and decarbonisation of the transport network in Wales.

As two of the UK’s largest rail overhead line foundation contractors with bases in Wales, Keltbray and Van Elle bring a wealth of experience to the South Wales Metro from years of successful delivery on major electrification schemes in Wales, including The Greater West Electrification Programme (GWEP).

David Buckley, Director of Rail at Van Elle, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the electrification of the Core Valleys Lines on the South Wales Metro project. This important work will make it easier for people travel across the Cardiff Capital Region, transforming rail services in the region.”

“I am looking forward to working in partnership with our peers at Keltbray and delivering together for Wales.”

Together, the partnership has the largest and most versatile fleet of Colmar Road Rail Vehicles (RRV) and compatible attachments in the UK specifically designed for OLE piling on the railway.
