Women in Transport welcomes Jo Field as new President

Women in Transport is pleased to announce the election of Jo Field as its new President, succeeding Katie Hulland. 

Jo’s election for a 4-year term was confirmed at Women in Transport’s Annual General Meeting held today (13 May 2021). 

Women in Transport members also elected five new Board Members from within the membership, including Marny Moruzzi as Vice-President.

Commenting on her appointment as President, Jo Field said:

“It is an honour to become President of Women in Transport and I would like to thank our members, Board and Chief Executive for putting their trust in me. 

“I am a passionate campaigner for gender equality and I bring this energy and expertise to the role. 

“I look forward to advocating for Women in Transport and boosting our connections with industry employers, parliamentarians and government to enable us to create positive change for our members and ensure we have an even greater voice on the issues that matter to us.

“As the transport industry recovers from the pandemic, there has never been a more important time to ensure gender diversity is central to policymaking and that a gender-balanced workforce is involved in the planning, design, construction and delivery of services to enable the industry to build back better.”

Newly elected Vice President, Marny Moruzzi said: 

"Women in Transport has been a constant support, a hub of knowledge and collaboration and a trusted and valuable network to me. 

“In my career I have held various roles spanning traffic operations to major transport infrastructure projects including High Speed 2 and Lower Thames Crossing and I’ve been fortunate to get to know many of the Women in Transport Board Members, members and leaders past and present along the way. 

“As Vice President, I will draw on my varied experiences and knowledge to support and help lead Women in Transport in progressive and forward-thinking ways."

Departing President, Katie Hulland said:

“It has been an absolute pleasure and a great privilege to play such a special role with an incredible team and supportive members over the past three pivotal years for the advancement of women in transport. 

“I look forward to supporting Jo and the new board members to settle into their roles and helping to deliver the exciting new initiatives they have planned for the months and years ahead.”

About Women in Transport

Women in Transport is a not-for-profit professional membership network that empowers women working in transport to maximise their potential. Membership provides exclusive access to an extensive events programme, mentoring, leadership training and the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Women in Transport. 

Women in Transport celebrated its 15th year in June 2020. Like many organisations it has faced the challenges of a global pandemic and even questioned the future of the organisation in the first lockdown.

Significant highlights in 2021 to date have been the launch of the Scotland hub led by Mailys Garden and supported by Momentum Transport Planning, Transport Scotland and Network Rail, publishing a whitepaper for the APPG and the introduction of a new bespoke leadership programme - Lead. 

The AGM marked a significant change for the organisation, with five newly created Board roles being offered and filled by members and the nomination of a new President.

About Jo Field

Jo Field is the Founder and Managing Director of JFG Communications, a consultancy specialising in stakeholder engagement, political communications and diversity for the transport sector.

As a Fellow of both the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, Jo is a transport professional and public relations professional in equal measure.

Jo is especially passionate about addressing women’s under-representation in the transport sector and has been a Board member of Women in Transport since 2015. Jo led the industry body’s engagement with parliamentarians to set up the first ever All-Party Parliamentary Group for Women in Transport in 2016. In the same year, Jo was named everywoman in Transport & Logistics Industry Champion for her work attracting and retaining women and inspiring young people to choose transport careers. 

Jo is a council member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and a trustee of Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking.
