Unlocking Innovation - Intelligent Railways

Wednesday 7 December 2022, Birmingham
Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education
Centre of Excellence in Digital Systems

15,935 kilometres of track, 2,569 stations, 990 million rail passenger journeys (back to 56.9% to pre-pandemic levels), 78 million tonnes of freight lifted (8% increase compared to pre-pandemic railways). These are just the high level numbers of the UK railway system. Each day this system generates an increasing amount of data as more railway assets are being digitised.

Unlocking Innovation - Intelligent Railways event will kick-start RIA's Data and Digital programme, looking at how can the supply chain leverage the already available railway data to support the digital technologies and what still needs to be done to unlock its full potential.

The programme will conclude with the launch of our Railway Data Challenge Paper at the next RIA Innovation Conference, taking place on 28-29 March 2022 in Nottingham.

Unlocking Innovation - Intelligent Railways event will engage with the major rail clients, passenger and freight rail operators, as well as leading suppliers to discuss the future challenges and showcase the digital technologies available to roll out on our railways today.

RIA's Unlocking Innovation programme is supported by Network Rail's R&D Portfolio and the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN), of which RIA is a founding member. The event is hosted by the University of Birmingham at their new Centre of Excellence for Digital Systems and the attendees will have an opportunity to explore the facilities in detail.

The event will take place both in person and online.
