The Railway Industry Association is actively involved in many cross-industry bodies involved in Technical and Safety issues, and represents the supply industry, either through its own staff or through member nominees. Issues addressed include:
- Development of technical strategies for the UK railways
- Standards development
- Product Acceptance
RIA also has a key role in promoting the interests of the UK railway supply industry in the European arena, including in the implementation of EU legislation in the UK:
Standards Development and Interoperability:
RIA organises UK supply industry representation on various CEN and CENELEC standards committees, and on the UK mirror committees.
RIA has been one of the leading players in the consultations on the EU Interoperability Directives, and continues to have a key role in their implementation and further development.
European Rail Traffic Management System:
RIA has played an important supporting role in the development of the ERTMS Programme in the UK .
In addition to the RIA special technical interest groups, RIA has two main technical and innovation networking events.
RIA’s Innovation Conference in the Spring – a two-day event with interactive, plenary and networking sessions, plus an exhibition; this always attracts high quality participants, from within the rail industry, academia and beyond.
And our popular Unlocking Innovation Scheme (UIS) Workshops are held in different locations around the UK every six months or so; they are free to attend and open to non-members.
