UK railway suppliers are invited to join a Department for International Trade and Railway Industry Association rail mission to Argentina and Brazil to meet key players and find out more about opportunities in these markets.

Brazil
The Brazilian railway sector has possibilities of investment for freight railway operators like Rumo, MRS and VLI. These companies have contracts that expire between 2028 and 2034 and are committed in promote new investments to modernize the railways lines and expand them to remote areas in Brazil. The government will sign new contracts related to these concessions in the second half of this year, hoping to attract £6 billion in investments for those operators. 
Regarding passenger railways, in Sao Paulo, the construction and operation of Line 6 – Orange, will bring more than 2 billion pounds in investments. In Rio de Janeiro, the light rail  project will connect the periphery with the city centre. The total length of the above infrastructure stood at 21.7km.

Argentina

Argentina has started to invest heavily in bringing back to life what is the world’s 8th largest rail network. During the last five years the national government has focused the investment plan ir track renewal, electrification, new rolling stock, stations, workshops and technology. They are also transitioning to open access in freight that will be effective in 2023.

At a municipal level, the city of Buenos Aires is about to decide a new operator for the Buenos Aires Underground. This +60km network continues to grow, with a new line in the pipeline. Some of the projects DIT Argentina are following include:
• Tren Norpatagónico – 700 km, freight
• Mitre line PPP – track renewal, freight
• New depot – heavy maintenance
• Depot upgrade works – light & heavy maintenance
• Regional Express Network – Crossrail equivalent
• Switching operator – port area traffic management
• Open access – freight

Wednesday - 18 March
• Political and economic briefing by the British Embassy team
• Sector briefing by the DIT team in Buenos Aires
• Presentation of current and upcoming projects by representatives of the Transport Ministry and key rail
companies, such as ADIFSE (National Rail Infrastructure Company), SOFSE (National Rail Operator), Belgrano
Cargas y Logistica (National Freight Company), SBASE (Buenos Aires Underground), and private operators
Metrovias, Ferrovias and Nuevo Central Argentino (TBC)

Thursday - 19 March
• All day Technical Seminar at HM Ambassador’s Residence, with mission members to present best practice
cases and highlight their experience/technologies/know how
• Networking with technical contacts from the main rail companies in the market
• One to one meetings with potential partners (agents and distributors with experience in the market), and buyers
(main rail, construction and engineering companies)

Friday - 20 March
• Site visits to main rail facilities and/or projects both at national and municipal levels (to be defined according to
the profiles of the mission members)
• Opportunity for delegates to arrange own appointments

especially between Brazil and Argentina.

At present, you don’t need a visa to enter Argentina as a tourist unless you’re travelling on an Emergency Travel
Document. On presentation of a valid British passport you will normally be granted a 90-day stay in the country.
You may need to provide proof of onward or return travel. You should make all flight reservations before departing for
Argentina. Airlines have sometimes refused to board passengers travelling to Argentina without proof of onward travel.
British nationals can normally enter Brazil without a visa as a tourist. Your passport should be valid for a minimum
period of 6 months from the date of entry into Brazil.
