In 2024, we're planning a series of Unlocking Innovation events where everyone involved in the UK's railways can meet to share new ideas and tools that make the railways better and more efficient. These events will be a chance for people to learn about new technologies, find funding, and work together to make the rail industry the best it can be.
These events are open for all and free to attend to allow for a diverse range of participants. We especially welcome innovators from all sectors to come along and explore opportunities in the railway sector or share their expertise and inventions from other industries.
About the Unlocking Innovation - Eastern Event
Unlocking Innovation - Eastern will focus on the opportunities to bring innovation to Network Rail's Eastern Region and Route Businesses, as well as engage with key major programmes such as Transpennine Route Upgrade and East West Rail.
Network Rail Eastern Region is seeking innovative solutions to transform railway infrastructure management, specifically focusing on three key areas:
1. Infrastructure Monitoring, Inspection & Decision Support Tools
2. Weather Resilience & Mitigation
3. Efficient Delivery of Capital Expenditure
The region faces a significant test in scaling innovations across its vast network of over 6,000 route miles, 2,600 level crossings, and over 9,000 bridges and signals, while maintaining cost efficiency, particularly within CP7 funding constraints. High on the agenda is improving asset monitoring inspection through remote monitoring technologies and enhancing weather resilience & mitigation.
Innovators will also have the opportunity to hear from two major projects in the region - the Transpennine Route Upgrade and East West Rail. We will also seek to invite other speakers from Train Operating Companies and Sub-National Transport Bodies.
