Membership of RIA is open to UK-based companies in the railway supply industry. The only parts of the industry that RIA does not cover are labour supply and news media.

The annual subscription is based on rail-related turnover, with a minimum subscription of £1,600. It is calculated on a reducing scale starting at a rate of £742 per £1m, for turnover up to £15m. Subscriptions run from April to March each year, but can be started at any time on a proportionate basis. At least six months notice of resignations is required, with membership continuing until the end of the quarter.

As well as benefitting from the general services provided by the Association, each subscription paying member company receives:

• RIA's members' mail service, comprising weekly distribution of information, news, consultations and other material
• Entry in membership lists, promotional material and on the RIA website
• Access to other services and participation in RIA events
• One vote at formal meetings and eligibility for RIA Council

Members are also entitled to use of the suite of meeting rooms at RIA's headquarters in Central London.
