Britain's railway supply industry welcomes the publication today of the expert report on the implementation of the European Rail Traffic Management System.

"This report is a major step forward in bringing the UK's railway network into the 21st Century", commented Jeremy Candfield, Director General of the Railway Industry Association.

"The findings demonstrate an achievable implementation of the new technologies now becoming available, helping improve network capacity and meeting EU legislation requirements while further improving safety.

"Now all parts of the industry need to work together to agree a committed, realistic programme and build up the resources in staff and equipment that will be needed", he concluded.
