RIA Technology & Innovation Conferences

Innov2 copyEach year, RIA organises an Innovation Conference, usually in March, bringing together Members with clients, academia, industry and innovation bodies. Non-members are ‘by invitation’ only.

The 2016 event was held on 16/17 March 2016 in Oxfordshire and was very successful. A full report on the conference will be available shortly.

This is a report of last year’s event:

The 2015 event was held at the Chesford Grange Hotel, near Leamington Spa, on 25/26 March 2015.

A record attendance of 220 at the RIA Technology & Innovation Conference 2015 took part in a full programme of conference sessions, break-out workshops, exhibitions and networking events.

Sponsored by the KTN and Altran, and based on the theme of ‘Technology Transfer’, the extensive programme featured a number of speakers from outside the industry, including Steve Gregson of Rolls-Royce, Paul Bebbington of McLaren and Paul Corbin of 3M.

Key rail industry speakers included Clare Moriarty (DfT), Anna Walker (ORR), Andy Doherty and Jane Simpson (NR), George Clark (LUL) and Mike Hulme (Alstom). There was also strong representation from innovation bodies and academia.

Special Guest Speaker for the evening dinner was TV presenter Maggie Philbin, who spoke encouragingly and passionately about the importance of attracting young people into careers in science and engineering.

This tied into a second underlying theme, with active involvement of the Young Rail Professionals in the event, and encouragements for graduate and apprentice engineers to attend.
