Richard is responsible for over £1.3bn of steel sales from British Steel Ltd to the rail, construction, automotive and yellow goods markets.  He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1987, and started his career in the steel sector, moving to work in France from 1992 to 1997 supplying steel products to the French civils sector.  In 1996 he then joined the “original” British Steel with their Strategy department, and gained an MSc in Engineering Management and an MBA between 1997 to 2002.   Since 2010 he has held Board Level positions in several companies including an aerospace distributor in China; a steel coating JV in Hartlepool; sales offices in Singapore and Taiwan; and was until recently as a Director of the British Steel Rail subsidiary in France formerly known as British Steel France Rail.

For the five years prior to his recent appointment as Deputy CMO he was the Sales Director for the Rail product Division at British Steel and was responsible for combined sales of £350m per year from their two steel rail mills in the UK and France with major customers including Network Rail, TfL, S.N.C.F. Réseau, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana S.p.a, Infrabel, and other rail networks across Europe.
