RIA responds to Andy Lord being appointed permanent TfL Commissioner

7 June 2023

Today, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and the Board of Transport for London have confirmed that Andy Lord has been appointed as London’s permanent Transport Commissioner.

Responding, the Railway Industry Association’s (RIA) Chief Executive, Darren Caplan said:

“On behalf of the Railway Industry Association and our members I would like to warmly welcome Andy Lord to his permanent position as TfL Transport Commissioner, and congratulate him on his appointment. The rail supply industry has worked closely with him during as his time as Interim Commissioner, and we look forward to continuing this constructive relationship in the future.

“With passengers returning to rail in London post-Covid it is clear that the capital’s rail and tube network can have a bright future, with the right support from the Government and City Hall, and long-term investment. Longer-term funding certainty, above and beyond the current 20-month TfL funding deal, is essential to enable the rail supply chain to deliver transformational rail projects in a way that both maximises efficiency and increases value for money for the fare and tax payer. We and our members look forward to engaging with Andy Lord on what will clearly be an ambitious rail agenda in the weeks and months to come.”
