SYSTRA’s Darren Kirkman appointed to Transport Planning Society Board

Darren Kirkman, Associate Director Transport Strategy, Funding and Appraisal at SYSTRA has been appointed to the Board of the Transport Planning Society (TPS).

The Transport Planning Society announced Darren Kirkman’s appointment as Board Member at their AGM on the 8th March 2024 which followed an impartial membership election process. Darren has been a TPS member for six years and was the TPS North West of England’s regional representative from 2020 to 2022. 

At SYSTRA, Darren currently leads a team advising the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on its Levelling Up Fund submissions as well as developing a proposal for Mobility Hubs for England’s Economic Heartland. Darren’s team has also recently developed a sustainable transport strategy for the London Borough of Newham.

On his appointment, Darren Kirkman, Associate Director Transport Strategy, Funding and Appraisal at SYSTRA said: “I’ve worked in transport planning for almost 20 years and felt it was a good time for me to give back to the profession. 

“I would like to use my TPS role to make the case for a net zero future and a less car-dependent society. I believe that continuous learning is required across the profession and technological changes like AI provide challenges as well as opportunities for transport planners, and we need to be able to respond and adapt quickly.”
